I first met Maxine in 2016 for a photoshoot at her radio station that’s located in Redfern, NSW. Within the first 30 minutes, her passion for creativity, especially for hip hop was evident. I literally just had to press the shutter button to capture those moments.
After our time together, we haven’t had much contact until 2020. Over the course of 4 years, her passion for being a DJ, an author, an interviewer, radio talent and educating others when it comes to hip hop flourished tremendously that I felt I met a different Maxine this year compared to the Maxine I met 4 years ago. I was fortunate to photograph her again:
I titled this piece, ‘ The Mind of a Writer’ for a reason. Often when I think of writers, I realised that overtime a mind yearns to explore, experience and express in ways that would capture the minds of others. With Maxine’s repertoire of experience, I want it to be felt in the photographs taken in a way that impacts others. Maxine’s strength, gentle yet strong-willed spirit is an overflow that’d spark the minds of other creatives to step up and to step into their own personal strengths.
Thank you Maxine for allowing me to be a part of your story.
