I never appreciated minimalism until I watched ‘Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things’ on Netflix two years ago. It taught me that life can be so much more when we have less. You may be wondering, am I a minimalist now? The truth is, I am more of a hoarder now than I was in 2016. Nevertheless, I still appreciate minimalism. The saying, ‘Less is more’ is personal mantra I’ve adopted into my photography, musicianship and friendships. I wanted to share briefly on how this personally impacted me.
Simplicity Works
If there is a story I often share over and over again, it’s the story of Clyde Beatty. He was a guy who left High School at a young age to join the circus. He started out as a cage cleaner and eventually made his way to be in a cage with a lion in front of a live audience.
All he needed was a chair and a whip. Most people in the audience would focus on the whip keeping the lion from mauling him, but on the contrary, it was the chair. What is it about the chair that could stun a glorious animal like the lion? With the four legs of the chair staring back at the lion, he is powerless as he attempts to focus on all four legs simultaneously. The four legs of the chair paralyses the lion because his attention is divided. Do you see where I am getting at? How often do we focus on too many things? I am not saying what we focus on are not important, but I’d often argue that we are at our best when we focus on one thing at a time.
Express Photo Sessions (EPS)
In the spirit of keeping things simple, I am pleased to announce that I am running a very limited photographic experience. This is for the individuals and couples who value the ‘Less is more’ mantra. Until the 18th of May, 2019 or when all 5 sessions are booked, I am offering 30 minute photoshoots within the Sydney Metropolitan Area for $140 flat per session for a very limited time.
I know that often life can be busy and that many of us are just after a handful of photographs for various reasons. I wanted to do something that is affordable, time friendly and provide an opportunity to connect with familiar and new friends in this experience.
